NutriControl Lowers Reporting Limit for PFAS in Animal Feed

23 Jun 2026

As of July 1, 2026, NutriControl will lower the reporting limit for PFAS analyses in various animal feed matrices from 0.3 µg/kg to 0.1 µg/kg. This change follows further optimization of the analytical method. We spoke with Sjoerd Fransen, R&D Chromatography Analyst at NutriControl, about this development.

Customers are increasingly seeking greater insight into the potential presence of these substances.

Does this mean that more PFAS will be detected?

“No, the products themselves are not changing. What is changing is the level at which we can report. With the lower reporting limit, low concentrations that previously fell below the reporting threshold may now become visible. This provides customers with greater insight, but it does not automatically indicate an increased risk or a change in product quality.”

Why is this relevant for customers?

“PFAS continues to receive significant attention throughout the food and animal feed supply chains. Customers are increasingly seeking greater insight into the potential presence of these substances. By lowering the reporting limit, we can provide more detailed information and support customers in their quality assurance efforts.”

Is this reduction technically well substantiated?

“Absolutely. During the validation of our analytical method, we demonstrated that we can reliably measure concentrations significantly lower than the current reporting limit. The new limit of 0.1 µg/kg provides a good balance between analytical reliability and practical applicability for our customers.”
